30h Yoga Therapy Training with Susan Michel
Sep 26-29, 2024
Learning and experiencing techniques to regulate the
nervous system and background knowledge
Yoga practice is therapeutic in its essence. Depending on our intention, experience and knowledge we can place emphasis on this and utilize it in balancing our nervous system and offering a nurturing environment in our teaching and/or our own practice.
Aspects that make yoga practice more therapeutic are creating and holding safe space for ourselves and others, authentic self-reflection and personal growth as a teacher and practitioner as well as practicing gratitude, mindfulness and teaching embodiment.
We will develop these resources by experiencing the benefits of slow and deliberate movement in yoga classes focused on themes like grounding, space orientation or exploring our inner landscapes, gentle pranayama and natural breathing, building focus through meditation and deep relaxation in yoga nidra (yogic sleep).
Training Content:
During this four-day immersion we will dive deeply into guided somatic practices and yoga techniques that regulate our nervous system and the connected physiology. Through asana, meditation, yoga nidra, breath awareness and conscious touch we will develop and explore relationships to our inner and outer environments.
As background knowledge a basic introduction to the anatomy, physiology and scientific findings around balancing the nervous system as well as a differentiation of stress and trauma will lead to understanding helpful practices in dealing with stress. This will provide an understanding of the potential as well as the limitations of yoga practices as a therapeutic tool.
Based on our embodied and cognitive understanding we will develop mindful touch skills, teaching meditation and some aspects of asana as well as yoga nidra practices as partner work.
Who is this training intended for?
This training is suitable for teachers and interested practitioners alike and requires no prior knowledge. We will begin each day with somatic practices, guided meditation and asana to provide the basis for self-exploration from which the topics of the day will unfold.
What will I learn?
As a yoga teacher you will emerge from this training with a deeper understanding of the body/mind connection and how to integrate this into your teaching. You will refine and develop your skillset towards becoming clearer, more subtle, and more differentiated in adapting the practice to your students. This means choosing and adapting asana more intentionally in group and private class settings as well as working with physical and stress-related issues.
As a practitioner you will learn how to practice in a sustainable, intelligent way for your body and find tools to disengage from conditioned patterning on and off the yoga mat.
This training offers an explorative, insightful and embodied approach to learning and transferring this knowledge into a practical context.
